Monday-Tuesday: Work on revising historical fiction stories and putting the stories into a picture book format.
Wednesday: Field trip to Idaho Falls. **Remember: Someone needs to be here at 5pm to pick up your child!
Thursday-Friday: A double period will be used to finish up stories, and students will take turns sharing their stories with the class.
History:
Monday: Read two stories on Hiroshima and show "The Mushroom Club" video.
Tuesday: ***Japan Essay Test!!*** An outline of information needed was given in class.
Wednesday: Field Trip

Tuesday-Wednesday: Work on and complete historical fiction stories.
**Wednesday-100 signed reading minutes due
Thursday- Friday: We have site work during la-history blocks Thursday, May 29th. The totem site was created three years ago as an extension activity for Touching Spirit Bear. This year kids made their own stepping stones to add to the site, and on Thursday the sixth grade will weed, feed, and seed the area, fix the existing structures, and a new tree will be planted.
Friday: All sixth graders will participate in a Totem ceremony where they will add their personal stepping stones to the already existing pathway.
The talent show will be in the afternoon over at the high school.
History:
Tuesday: Review information students will need to know for their Japan essay test next week. Practice map. **The essay test will be next Tuesday.
Students have been given what the essay question will be: How has Japan changed from an isolated farming country into a world power?
Wednesday: Students will take a final map quiz. Most places on the map will be ones they have already been quizzed on, so this should mainly be a review. Two countries have been added that they haven't had to locate on previous maps this year. All of the other labels are repeats.

Friday: Totem ceremony/talent show.

Monday, Thursday, Friday: We will be in the library for a double period on these days this week to research the chosen historical events kids will use as a base for their historical fiction stories.
Tuesday: Read over the information gotten from the library on Monday and highlight and take notes on pertinent information.
History: Tuesday: Continue Warlords of Japan
Wednesday: This is a late arrival day for students. Classes begin at 9:40. Due to the shortened schedule, we will continue Warlords and skip research this day. There will be a special presentation called Poetry Alive for the whole school in the afternoon.

Monday: Introduce the 5th grade letter and brainstorm pieces of advice or highlights of 6th grade to pass along to the upcoming class. Students will choose 3 topics they will talk about in their letter.
Tuesday: Continue planning the 5th grade letter
Wednesday-Thursday: Write and edit rough draft.
Friday: Type rough draft.
History:
Monday-Friday: Begin and play Warlords of Japan. Working together in groups, students assume the role of war lords of a historic Japanese castle. It is the late 1500s in Japan, a time known as the "Period of the Warring States". Each clan must send armies out from its castle, take over and control provinces, and attempt to take over and control the other castles. Their goal is to become shogun, supreme military ruler of Japan. Each group earns moves on a classroom map and essential rice, which is used as money, by completing notes, artwork, samurai journals, and timelines.
